Hall, Sports Fields and Park Hire

Council maintains the sporting fields and reserves and encourages the community to use and enjoy them. These facilities are also available for seasonal hire and one off special events, such as sports carnivals. You can hire a hall for your meetings or for a large function, hire sporting fields on a seasonal, casual or on a one-off basis or hire one of Council's many parks for organised group picnics or weddings. Select an option to choose what best suits your purpose.

Browse down for further information on picnics, weddings and the Wet Weather Information line.

Picnics

Small groups (under 100 people)

If you are organising a picnic in one of the City's parks for a small group (less than 100 people), you do not need to notify Council. However, if you are hiring a jumping castle or any other such equipment to use on the site, you must take out Public Liability insurance cover and apply for a Council permit. A fee applies.

Large groups (over 100 people)

If you are organising a picnic in one of the City's parks for a large group (more than 100 people), you need to apply for a picnic permit. A fee applies. If you are hiring a jumping castle or any other such equipment to use on the site, you do not need to apply for an additional permit, however you must take out Public Liability insurance cover.

Weddings

Rockdale Park is the City's most popular venue for outdoor wedding ceremonies and/or wedding photography. To hire Rockdale Park, fill in an application form, print, sign it and send or bring it to Council's Customer Service Centre, along with your payment. The Customer Service Centre can confirm the required fees and charges (PDF Format/486k).

To finalise your booking you may either:

Post your signed sports field application form and payment (cheque/money order only, do not send cash) to:

    Rockdale City Council
    PO Box 21
    Rockdale NSW 2216

    Or

    Bring
your signed application form and payment to our Customer Service Centre (cash, cheque, money order or EFTPOS/credit card).

A permit will be issued granting Council approval for the use of the facilities.

For more information on hiring Rockdale Park, call the Customer Service Centre on 9562 1666.

Remember, historic Lydham Hall is also available for wedding ceremonies, wedding photography and other special events.

Wet Weather Information Line

Rockdale City Council has a 'Wet Weather Line' which advises customers on whether or not council's sporting fields are open or closed for competition, training or school use.

The contact number is 9562 1637.

The line is updated as the need arises following inspection by Parks Operational staff.

Where Council has determined on Friday afternoon that the sporting grounds are closed for the weekend then that is final. Should the sporting fields by Friday afternoon be determined that they are not sufficiently affected enough by rain to prevent weekend use, then the decision to play will rest with the Sporting Associations should more rain occur over the weekend period.

Customers need to contact the association directly for the status of grounds on the weekend unless Council has completely closed grounds on the Friday.
