Crime Statistics

Crime StatisticsEach year the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) release crime statistics for all Local Government Areas across the state.

Crime statistics in the Rockdale Local Government Area (LGA) have predominantly shown a downward trend over recent years. Rockdale LGA has remained under the state's averages in most of the crime categories including:

  • Assault
  • Sexual assault
  • Break and enter - dwelling
  • Break and enter - non-dwelling
  • Steal from person and malicious damage to property

Despite statistics indicating Rockdale LGA has comparatively low levels of crime; surveys conducted with residents indicate that they have a greater perceived level of crime. It is said that this is due to the negative media attention and coverage of the Southern Sydney region, particularly of criminal offences, even if they are not commonly happening within the City of Rockdale.
