Thriving Town Centres

The City's town centres continue to be revitalised with works completed in recent years at Banksia, Arncliffe, King Street Place in Rockdale, and Bexley North.

Council's ongoing 'Thriving Town Centre' initiative plans to revitalise the heart of each suburb to improve access for pedestrians, encourage shopping, provide a meeting place for the community, as well as making the areas safer by day and night.

King Street Place - from King Lane to Market Street - is now a traffic-free zone. Large deciduous trees, new lighting and seats, and flower displays were installed, opening up space for al fresco dining, outdoor markets and entertainment.

Stage 1 at Arncliffe saw the planting of trees, pedestrian-friendly pavements, better lighting and traffic calming devices.

The area around the railway station was upgraded at Banksia with improved paving, plantings and lighting.

At Bexley North, footpaths were widened along Illawarra Road, green spaces created and both paving and lighting improved.

For Ramsgate Beach vehicle and pedestrian access will be improved and custom-made lighting and furniture will be installed as well as the creation of a central plaza and seating areas.

As proposals are developed the adopted Master Plans will be shown here for your information.
