About Rockdale City Council

Council chambers

Rockdale City Council has 15 Councillors, 334 staff members and an annual budget of approximately $60 million.

Councillors are elected by residents every four years. The Mayor is elected each year by the Councillors.

The General Manager controls the day-to-day management of the Council. Led by the General Manager, the staff implement Council decisions to provide works and services to the City.

Council meetings are held at 6.30pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers upstairs from the Library in the Rockdale Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public.*

Please note that from March 2009 for a trial period of 6 months, Council meetings will be held at 6:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month only, in the Council Chambers upstairs from the Library in the Rockdale Town Hall.

The agenda and business papers for Council meetings are available on Council's Web page from 6pm the Friday before the meeting. Printed copies are available to read in Council's Customer Service Centre at 2 Bryant Street, Rockdale and at all Branch Libraries from Monday morning. Copies are also available on request through the Customer Service Centre.

Community members may speak during Public Forum at the beginning of each meeting, if they register before 4pm on the day of the meeting.

The meeting on the 3rd Wednesday is conducted in a Committee environment allowing residents, objectors and applicants the time to put their view on particular proposals and giving the Councillors the opportunity to ask questions on issues raised.

For more information about Council meetings or speaking at a Public Forum please telephone 9562 1757.

To arrange wheelchair access to these meetings please telephone 9562 1855.

Council’s Customer Service Centre is located at 2 Bryant Street Rockdale

Sister Cities

Based on the belief that peace can be achieved by building understanding between ordinary people, the Sister City program was introduced to the world by the United State's Eisenhower Government in 1952.
To this day, Sister City relationships encourage cultural and social contact, as well as giving the cities involved the chance to explore educational and economic opportunities.
Rockdale City Council has Sister City links with these cities:

  • Takeo, Cambodia
  • Tanggu, China
  • Bitola, Macedonia
  • Glyfada, Greece
  • Rockdale, Texas, USA
  • Bint Jbail, Lebanon
  • Yamatsuri, Japan
  • Gilgandra, Australia

Rockdale City Council also has a Friendship City link with Arica in Chile. This community based link explores cultural and economic opportunities between the communities of Rockdale and Arica.
