The next election of Councillors for Rockdale City Council will be held on Saturday 8 September 2012. Council elections are held on the second Saturday in September every 4 years. Voting is compulsory if you are on the electoral roll.
The Council comprises fifteen Councillors, who are elected for a four year term. The Mayor is elected annually by the Councillors.
Rockdale City Council, like many other councils, has engaged the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) to organise and conduct the Council elections for 2012.
Information For Candidates
Candidates are the people who stand for election whose names appear on the ballot paper. Nomination is the process by which a person registers to become a candidate for an election.
The NSWEC is holding a number of candidate information sessions across Metropolitan Sydney and Regional NSW to provide potential candidates with key information about the election process.
New Council Induction
After the elections, and once the poll has been declared, Council will contact the successful candidates to arrange for their attendance at a Rockdale City Council Induction Program. The program will comprise various sessions over some weeks. Its aim is to ensure that Councillors have a good understanding of their role and responsibilities, have the necessary training and resources to fulfil the role, and the support that will be available from the Council administration.
