We are celebrating NAIDOC Week (from Sunday 5 - Sunday 12 July) with a Flag Raising Ceremony.

This year's NAIDOC Week theme, We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate, highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea.

The theme is an opportunity to pay respects to country; honour those who work tirelessly on preserving land, sea and culture and to share the stories of many sites of significance or sacred places with the nation.

As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, Council is supporting the Koori Kids NAIDOC Week School Initiatives program which promotes respect and harmony within schools.

Aboriginal Australia Stories

Council Branch Libraries are also running 'Aboriginal Australia' story times during NAIDOC Week.

The Hawthorne Street Natural Area is one of Rockdale City Council's hidden bushland treasures. This rare piece of Kurnell Dune Forest is being regenerated by Council staff and local bushcare volunteers. For National Tree Day we will be planting along the creek bank where large areas of weeds have recently been removed. So come along and plant a few trees, have a cup of tea and a sausage. All welcome!
