Rockdale City Council is establishing a community bird watching group for the local area. Beginner and experienced bird watchers are welcome. The City of Rockdale provides a home to many different types of birds, including migratory and threatened species, with some visiting annually from as far away as Siberia, Russia. Participation in this group is an opportunity to attain new skills and contribute to the monitoring of bird numbers and diversity in the City's natural areas. The introductory session will discuss how the group will work, present information on local birds and the importance of natural habitat. During a short outing there will be training of some basic identification skills and how to use binoculars and field guides. No experience is necessary, just an interest to get involved with regular outings. Bring a pair of binoculars, although a limited number will be made available in the session

The Uniting Church, Kogarah Storehouse is organizing a fundraiser walkathon (Walk for a Meal) in conjunction with Anti-Poverty Week. We only ask for each participant to donate $20 and in return will be given a free lunch.  

The walkathon is only 4 kms long and will commence from the Storehouse to Brighton Beach and back.

The funds raised will ensure the Storehouse can continue providing daily food parcels to the disadvantaged in the St George area, as well as maintain the soup kitchen that runs each week
