Councillor Yvonne Bellamy - First Ward Councillor Yvonne Bellamy, who was elected in 1995, feels now is the time to set good foundations ensuring a stronger council by restoring accountability and reinforcing partnerships with the community and local businesses. "Since our City is currently going through significant growth reflecting trends of the Sydney Metropolitan Area, there is a need to plan and implement traffic management and economic solutions," she said. "Council needs to drive urban planning so we have sustainable long term solutions for the whole of our local government area." She believes that revitalising economic activity and creating community-friendly commercial areas are priorities. "I also want to help protect and improve our natural environment by providing quality recreation and providing a sense of community spirit for our City." Councillor Bellamy, who holds a BA in Adult Education (UTS), has lived in the City of Rockdale for 37 years. Previously a teacher, she now helps manage a small family-operated local business. In her spare time she enjoys relaxing with her family, playing golf, gardening and volunteering to help the elderly. She considers the fact she was the first female Rockdale Mayor in 131 years as a definite highlight in her time at Council.
