Cr Jan Brennan - Second Ward Liberal Councillor Jan Brennan has lived in the City of Rockdale for 15 years, and is passionate about wanting to change the community for the benefit of all residents. "Councillors are elected to represent the people in a community and we must honour that responsibility for the benefit of all our residents. This means creating a better future for the next generation where fairness, responsibility and respect for others is at the heart of a strong civic culture," she said. "I would like this Council to improve the quality of life for families and provide more services for the young and the aged. Security, stability and ultimately quality of life for everyone is a necessity." Councillor Brennan was elected to Council in 1999. She was previously appointed to the position of Mayoress in 2000 and 2004, a role based on helping the community's disadvantaged. In her time as Mayoress she applied the committee's grant to help numerous not for profit organisations such as Marion Villa Women's Shelter, St Vincent de Pauls and Carlton Dogs Home. With the funding she also helped set up a parent support program with the St George Reconnect Youth and Family Services, and the READY (Resources and Education on Alcohol and Drugs for Youth) Group. As the mother of three children, Councillor Brennan believes "this responsibility exposed me to the difficulties facing families and children and gave me an insight into contacts and remedies available to alleviate problems which would otherwise seem insurmountable."
