Background
The NSW Department of Planning requires all councils in New South Wales to prepare new comprehensive Local Environmental Plans (LEP) in accordance with the Standard Instrument (Local Environmental Plans). Additionally, the Department has released the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy which sets out a long-term plan for the Sydney Metropolitan Region which includes dwelling and employment targets to 2031 at a sub-regional level. The table below shows the draft targets for the City relative to the Southern Sydney sub-region.

Update 16 July 2010 Council has prepared a draft Local Environmental Plan (LEP) for the entire City. A report on the draft LEP 2011 will be considered at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 21 July 2010.

- by visiting Council's Customer Service Centre at the Administration Building, 2 Bryant Street, Rockdale
The report seeks Council's endorsement of the draft LEP. If Council adopts the draft LEP, it will be sent to the Department of Planning for certification for public exhibition purposes.
Please note that the draft LEP 2011 attached to the report is not the official exhibition version, as it may be changed either by Council on Wednesday 21 July, or in negotiations with the Department of Planning.
