Getting Your House Listed

Council is keen to hear from property owners who would like to place their house on the Heritage List. In the first instance, write a letter to Council expressing your interest in heritage listing your property and mail it to:

The General Manager
Rockdale City Council
PO Box 21
Rockdale 2216
Include your phone number and we will arrange for our Heritage Adviser to contact you.

The procedure is simple and will not cost anything. Council will arrange for a Heritage expert to visit your property to assess its architecture and attributes. Your house will be photographed from the outside and the details of the assessment will be recorded on an inventory sheet.

When Council has a number of properties waiting to be listed, they will be included in a Local Environmental Plan. This Plan will be placed on public exhibition and later referred to the Department of Planning for 'gazettal' (approval). Once the plan is gazetted, your house will be formally heritage listed. We will keep you informed at various stages of the process.

If you would like to know more about heritage listing or any other matter relating to heritage conservation, please contact Council's Urban and Environmental Planning Section on 9562 1666.
