Local Environmental Groups - Contacts

Cooks River Valley Association

The Cooks River Valley Association (CRVA) is a registered Landcare Group made up of local residents, who work to rehabilitate the Cooks River and to improve the local environment.  The group holds forums to discuss relevant matters and participates in volunteer programs and activities such as clean ups, bush regeneration, water quality testing and pollution reporting.

Australian Wildlife Society

The society funds and manages conservation projects for native Australian wildlife species, such as the grey headed flying fox, wombat, koala and small birds.  The group aims to conserve Australia's fauna and flora through education and involvement of the community, and is involved in education programs, advocacy and hands on conservation work.

National Parks Association of NSW (Southern Sydney)

National Parks Association of NSW is a non-government conservation group that seeks to protect, connect and restore the integrity and diversity of natural systems in NSW and beyond, through national parks, marine sanctuaries and other means.  The group conducts activities including bush walking, conservation campaigns, bird watching events, biodiversity surveys and bush regeneration.

Botany Bay and Catchment Alliance

The Botany Bay and Catchment Alliance Inc. is an umbrella group comprising over 35 community and environmental groups within the catchment of Botany Bay.

Mission
To bring together environmental groups who are dedicated to the restoration, protection and sustainable use and enjoyment of Botany Bay and its catchment. The alliance will work to improve the health of the Bay ecosystem through education, conservation, research and advocacy.

The Wolli Creek Preservation Society

The Wolli Creek Preservation Society aims to ensure the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Wolli Creek Valley, its tributaries, associated corridors and their ecological communities, and the ecologically sensitive restoration, expansion and maintenance of these areas. The Society conducts environmental walks and education activities for schools and the general community in the Valley as well as running regular bush regeneration activities, kayaking trips and monthly bat counting and bird surveys. They also arrange talks for members and the public and give presentations to other community groups.

Georges River Riverkeeper Program

The Riverkeeper Program coordinates volunteer and community service teams to provide broad-scale removal of rubbish from the river's foreshores, creeks and tributaries. Member councils identify rubbish 'hotspots' on the river. Regeneration teams are restoring degraded, remnant bushland on foreshores, creeks and tributaries across the catchment. Work is undertaken along the river system to improve ecological health and species biodiversity

Permaculture Sydney South

A community group for those who share an interest in permaculture (naturally designed gardens). Monthly meetings, a range of permaculture based activities and events are provided to members.
