Waste
Here's the correct way to place
your bin out for collection

Garbage and Organics Recovery Service

Council's domestic kerbside waste service consists of your Garbage and Organics Recovery Service and recycling service. This service varies whether you live in a single dwelling (house, townhouse or villa) or a unit/flat. Generally, waste services for small businesses are the same as those for single houses. Bins will be serviced by 6pm on your collection day

Weekly Collection for Single Dwellings

Place all your household and green waste into the bin with the red lid. This is your Garbage and Organics Recovery Bin.

Your 240-litre and Garbage and Organics Recovery Bin is emptied once a week. Your bins are picked up by trucks that have a single mechanical arm, which grabs onto your bin, lifts it up, empties the contents, then returns it to the kerbside.

When the bins are placed too close together or close to a tree, a pole or a parked car, the driver of the truck cannot empty your bin.

To help the driver pick up, empty and replace your bin easily and safely, remember:

  • To put your bin out at the kerbside the night before collection.
  • To place the Garbage Organics Recovery Bin out with the handles facing towards your house.
  • To make sure the Garbage Organics Recovery Bin lid is shut, to avoid spills.
  • To leave a gap of about 30 centimetres between your Recycling and Garbage and Organics Recovery Bins or any other obstruction.

What NOT to Place in Your Garbage and Organics Recovery Bin

  • Building or construction waste.
  • Hazardous waste such as batteries, asbestos, paints and gas bottles.
  • Car parts.
  • Bricks.
  • Medical waste, including used medicines, needles and syringes.
  • Recyclables.
  • Sawdust.
  • Clothing/textiles.

If you have a large household or business and one bin is not enough, Council can provide additional 240-litre bins, at a cost of $312 each per year.

Garbage Collection for Multi-unit Dwellings

Residents of multi-unit dwellings share the bins in their block. These bins do not need to be placed at the kerb for collection. They are emptied (twice a week) by a garbage contractor who collects them from, and returns them to, your block's bin storage area.

It is the responsibility of the Body Corporate to ensure the bin storage area (or bin bay) is always accessible to Council's contractors. The path to and from the roadway should also be kept clear. Council's collectors will not remove material lying around in the bin bays and will not risk injury by stepping or climbing over any items in their path.

Garbage Collection Days
