If your child needs help with homework, assignments or research, Rockdale City Library offers your family support through the yourtutor online tutoring service. It is available to students from Year 4 to Year 12 as well as TAFE students.

Free Service for Library Members

Your child will need a library card to use this service. They can use the service for free on one of our public PCs in any of our branches or log in from home by clicking on the yourtutor icon below.

How does it work?

Safety

Your child has to enter their library barcode number in order to use the service. This allows access to the service but does not transmit any personal data. In fact, your child is never required to enter any personal information so using the service is completely safe.

Targeted Assistance

Once your child has entered their library barcode, they will be given a screen to select help from. They can choose their Year, which subject they need help with and are asked if they're logging on from home or from one of our libraries. They will then be connected to a tutor who is qualified for their subject and year level. Subjects covered are:

• Maths - general maths, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus
• Science - general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics
• English - grammar, spelling, essay writing
• Research - organising and writing reports
  

It is advisable that your child brings their question or assignment to the computer before logging on so that they are clear about what they want to ask the tutor.

The tutor will never just give them the answer to their question or do their homework for them. They will help your child to get to the answer or assist them in understanding how to solve a problem.

At the end of their session they will be asked to give feedback. This is optional but it helps to improve the service if they can let us know if they received the help they needed.

Operating Hours

Students can log on from 4pm-8pm all year round. The service only takes a summer break around Christmas and the New Year.
