Your Library Card

Your Rockdale Library and Community Information Service card is valid for use at all of our branches. Please notify the Library immediately if your card is lost or stolen. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before you reported the loss of your card. You will be charged a fee when the Library replaces your lost, stolen or damaged card.

Loans and Renewals

You may borrow as many books and magazines as can reasonably be read and returned in three weeks. Books may be renewed for two additional loan periods if not already overdue, in demand, or reserved by others.

Most items other than books can also be borrowed for three weeks, though the following limits apply:

  • Junior or English Language Kits - limit of 8
  • CDs - limit of 8
  • CD ROMs - limit of 8
  • DVDs or VCDs - limit of 8

Remember:

  • Books and other library items can be returned to any branch
  • You can renew your books online through the Online Catalogue
  • Telephone renewals are welcome (you will need to quote your card number, so have it handy when you call!)

Reservations and Inter-library Loans

You can reserve any Library item that is not immediately available. A charge applies, and must be paid when the reservation is made. You can reserve Library items online through the online catalogue.

If you need a book that is not in the Rockdale Library and Community Information Service's collection, we can obtain an inter-library loan from other libraries in Sydney, NSW or nationally.

A reservation charge applies, plus any additional fees charged by the other Library. We will notify you when the reserved item is available.

Photocopies of articles in magazines not held by the Rockdale Library and Community Information Service can also be obtained from another library. The fee will vary.

Overdue Fees and Other Charges

  • Please return items on time or renew them before the due date. Borrowers who have an amount owing in excess of $20 need to reduce that amount to $20 in order to borrow items. Further payments need to be made on each visit to the Library to continue borrowing until all outstanding charges are paid in full

The Library's computer system tallies up an overdue fee shortly after an item becomes late. Borrowers who have provided an email address will receive a reminder email when their items are due.
