Trial Householders' Asbestos Removal Scheme

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has committed $3 million for trialling a Householders' Asbestos Removal Scheme. The scheme will waive the waste levy on asbestos and reduce tip fees in Rockdale City. The scheme has been extended to end on Monday 1 August 2016 or until 5,000 tonnes of asbestos are collected.

Councils participating in scheme

Illegal dumping of asbestos is a major issue in New South Wales. The aim of the trial is to minimise the financial impact on householders who want to do the right thing with their asbestos waste.

This is a Once Only Offer

Conditions of the scheme:

  • The offer applies only to house owners in the participating Local Government Areas - namely Hurstville City, Kogarah City, Rockdale City, Sutherland Shire and Willoughby City - for bonded asbestos
  • Only one application per household
  • Only for work undertaken by a licensed asbestos removal company that has been approved to participate in the trial scheme
  • Maximum disposal amount of asbestos is 5 tonnes per application
  • The applicant must agree to the scheme's Terms and Conditions
  • The householder must have any necessary Building or Development Consent. Applicants must check if consent is required, and if required, obtain approval before any work is undertaken

Danger - Asbestos!

You will need to make an online application (currently hosted on Sutherland Shire Council's website) to participate in this trial.
