Rockdale City Council has approximately 370 employees in a variety of permanent full time, part time, job sharing, temporary and contract positions.
Council employs people in traditional local government positions such as Town Planners, Building Inspectors (now known as Assessment Officers), Environmental Health Officers, Regulation Inspectors, Parks and Cleansing Staff, a variety of Trades staff, Engineers, Records Officers, Administrative & Clerical staff and Librarians. In addition, we employ people with a full range of business skill sets, across areas including IT, Finance, Customer Service, Human Resources and Public Relations. Application Guidelines
While there is no right or wrong way to format your written application, you must address each of the essential and desirable skills in the position description set out in the advertisement and/or information package.
To be considered for an interview, you must meet all the essential and desirable skills. Selection for interviews is based on your knowledge, skill level and ability to meet these essential and desirable skills.
The information below includes a guide to preparing your application and a summary of Council's selection process. If you are not successful, remember that the job market is competitive and it is not a personal reflection on you.
Essential information to include in your application:
- Cover Letter - stating the title of the position you are applying for and your relevant contact details
- Resume/CV - including a summary of your work experience including where you have worked, the position(s) held, the period of your employment, and brief details on your responsibilities and the duties you performed; and the names, position titles and telephone numbers of at least two professional referees who could provide comments on your ability to meet the essential and desirable skills
- Statements - which clearly and concisely describe how you meet each of the essential and desirable skills. Wherever possible provide examples of your merit; do not simply state that you meet the criteria

The Selection Process
The selection panel comprises a minimum of three (3) members including the immediate supervisor of the position being recruited for. There must be both males and females on the selection panel.
The panel will assess all submitted written applications and develop a list of successful candidates to interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified promptly.
All interviewees will be asked the same questions that have been designed with the essential and desirable skills in mind. In some cases you may be asked to present samples of your past work or to complete a structured exercise or test(s).
After interviews, the panel decides on a short-list of candidates. The short-listed candidates will be sent for a pre-employment medical prior to being offered the position. This medical is at Council's expense.

Parking Patrol Officer
Rockdale City Council is seeking to employ a highly motivated and experienced Parking Patrol Officer within its City Operations Department. Reporting to the Senior Parking Patrol Officer, the position is predominantly responsible for the enforcement of parking regulations throughout the City.
Essential Requirements
- Proven knowledge of the NSW Road Rules
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- To be resourceful and work with minimum supervision
- Current Class C driver's licence
This challenging position demands good communication, conflict resolution and mediation skills, along with basic computer literacy. Applications will be supported by a proven ability to write clear and concise correspondence and reports and prepare evidence for court proceedings.
Salary conditions are in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2010 for a 38 hour week based on a nine (9) day fortnight. The position is currently at Grade 5 in Council's Salary System with an entry level of $851.32 per week, with progression to $953.47 per week upon the attainment of certain skills. In addition, an opportunity also exists for participation in a team based performance bonus. The successful applicant may also participate in Saturday work at an overtime rate of payment.
